Yes undoubtedly.
Trust among human beings will only be restored when
honesty is considered as fundamental virtue.
Lies, even little lies, will lead to more lies and
life will become jungle.
Without honesty, we will never have true love,
then unity and peace.
There are cases harmful for honest people, but that
is the cost of trust and of all other values in life.
That is why in our confusing society today,
honest people are highly loved and respected.
With maturity, knowledge, civilization, human beings
will choose what is best for individuals as well as
for societies.

Yes, definitely.
Once the world feels of your honesty,
then you can go through all doors,
You become very rare and very needed
in our world today.
Our world is funnily ruled by money:
money for the rich, money for the poor,
money for all human activities!
Many countries are now collapsing for
lack of honest people to manage money
with transparency, security, honesty!
I have just heard that in various financial
institutions people are teaching honesty to
their members. And I wonder who have the
knowledge and prestige to teach morality!

Is it better to find happiness by any means, or to try to find it within the confines of social “norms”?

Outside of social norms includes taboos, legality issues, and/or harm to other people.

Happiness is not a thing to be got, found or obtained;
it is realization, or more precisely, self-realization.
All kings and beggars can be happy, when they know
themselves, are themselves, under the light of their
true knowledge.
I already answered on EP many questions about how
to know oneself and how to be oneself.
