How did inanimate matter first come into existence?

All things, animate and inanimate, known and unknown to human beings, are created by God. God says be, and it is.
Science cannot answer your question, because scientists imagine that matter existed naturally before “Big Bang”. Then all sorts of confusing theories follow the evolution of matter. Today, scientists become more confused with dark matter and dark energy.
Religion cannot answer this question, because religionists are learning confusing things from priests and from scientists.
Only God can give answers about Himself, the world and His purpose in creation. These answers are given more and more convincingly through His Messengers. Pure and sincere souls understand them and living in complete happiness. They are building a higher and higher civilization on earth.
Wishing that human souls are becoming purer and more sincere with divine education.

Abdul-Baha says:

The divine sovereignty is an ancient sovereignty, not an accidental sovereignty.
If we imagine this world of existence has a beginning, we can say the divine sovereignty is accidental — that is, there was a time when it did not exist. A king without a kingdom is impossible. He cannot be without a country, without subjects, without an army, without dominion, or he would be without kingship. All these exigencies or requirements of sovereignty must exist for a king. When they do exist, we can apply the word sovereignty to him. Otherwise, his sovereignty is imperfect, incomplete. If none of these conditions exists, sovereignty does not exist.
(Abdu’l-Baha, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 218)

God creates all worlds
Known and yet unknown to men
Because He is love
