Do you think the world would be better with philosopher kings?

Definitely no; that is why Buddha abandoned His position as inherited Prince. It is by educating people, in the position of a beggar, He can establish the world kingdom of peaceful Buddhism. Today, Baha’u’llah is doing the same thing in the position of a prisoner. The world will become a much better world in the centuries to come, when all human beings enter divine education via the Internet.
For the time being, in this transition period, various countries will be governed by institutions “of the people, by the people and for the people”. Institutions do not govern authoritatively like individual monarchs, but by democratic consultation and decision making of majority members.
When the majority of the human race become mature, we will know how to organize our world as a heavenly kingdom of love, unity and peace.
Now the UN, NATO, ASEAN, APEC, BRICS and other institutions worldwide… are functioning in this mature process. A better world is within human power under the guidance of God.

The members thereof must take counsel together in such wise that no occasion for ill-feeling or discord may arise. This can be attained when every member expresseth with absolute freedom his own opinion and setteth forth his argument. Should anyone oppose, he must on no account feel hurt for not until matters are fully discussed can the right way be revealed. The shining spark of truth cometh forth only after the clash of differing opinions. If after discussion, a decision be carried unanimously well and good; but if, the Lord forbid, differences of opinion should arise, a majority of voices must prevail.
