What is supposed to go in the “doing good” category… Do they mean altruistic acts? Is this the category where we brag?

Altruistic acts are only a very small part of doing good.
Doing good is doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time.
Few centuries ago, doing things beneficient to one country is good. Today, many things good for one country is very harmful to other countries. So, doing good now means the thing we do should be beneficient to all mankind.
This also means that we need a completely new system of divine education that shows us how to conduct our life with new principles and new laws.
In the past, it was good to follow the leardeship of fathers, teachers, kings; at present it is only good to obey the divine institutions of the people, by the people and for the people. There would be no exploiters and slaves; there are only elected servants who sacrify their lives for the welfare of people whom they represent.
Of course, this cannot become reality overnight, but it is good fruit of divine education for the mature human race in centuries to come. We need to enter it the sooner the better.

Abdul-Baha says:

And all this newness hath its source in the fresh outpourings of wondrous grace and favour from the Lord of the Kingdom, which have renewed the world. The people, therefore, must be set completely free from their old patterns of thought, that all their attention may be focused upon these new principles, for these are the light of this time and the very spirit of this age.
